You don't tell the people in Madeira, Portugal that they don't have enough land for a runway! They are very resourceful people. 1000 meters of runway is supported by 180 pillars 50 meters high, (about 17 floors). It's designed for the weight of a 747 with more than likely a high percentage over kill. Total runway length is 2781 meters.

Is two miles enuff rollout room for it to be a shuttle alternate? :jester:

aeronca65t, its o.k., anyone see the "entire airport" they build in japan in the water from nothing? Ive been there a couple ah times, now that's impressive!
