A really dumb problem

Good thing you found yer way in here: you can be pun-ished for doin' that stuff in public, y'know.

My wife can't stand it, but I get laughs every time. Gotta be doin somthing right!

The first quote in your .sig file is something like my mother used to say... she said it back in the Univac days: "Man will devolve to a pile of protoplasm with one digit to press the "food" button!"

If you use heat, use a very strong heat source and heat the knockoff as quickly as possible. This will make the knockoff expand before the hub and hopefully give you that tiny bit of extra clearance between the two threads. Once it's nice and hot, pour a bunch of penetrating oil into the threads and start bashing the heck out of it with a very big hammer. Drape a packing blanket over the fender if you're nervous about the paintowrk. The wheel will come off eventually, hang in there!

First encounter with a stubborn "ear" style spinner was my First MG. Three days of trying different methods, finally did as Steve recommends. Used a propane torch and a seven pound ingot of printing press lead. THEN I couldn't get the wheel off the splines! Needless to say, I learned a LOT about the care and feeding of wire wheels right from the jump.

thanks for all the info! I'm in the middle of an engine rebuild / 5-speed transplant, and looking at 60+ hour weeks at work for a little while, but hopefully I can put the advice to use before the end of next month...

Good luck! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
