Flat tire fears: My 61BE looks good, but my major interest is driving her. Have everything I need to change a tire (tiress are new, but so are some nails): good spare in non-trunck, knock off hammer of wood and copper, wooden mold to protect knock-offs.

Not a purist, don't need original jack...especially for $ they cost. Need light, low (6 1/2" or less in lowest position).

I've surfed the net a far amount trying to find? Any ideas?

Really appreciate it.....

p.s. My last question on BCF was about my non-honking horn. Thanks to those of you who responded...the BE honks like an aggressive barnyard goose.
 
the general wisdom is to get a scissor jack from a wreckers. I think VW is the one of choice. I bought one at Princess Auto $10 I think. Apparantly the originall can damage the paint using the jacking points. I have no intention to use mine.
 
Understand VW Jeta is the way to go.
 
AAA and a cell phone. It may take a bit longer, but you don't have to carry ANYTHING but the spare tire. And, if you don't want to carry that, they'll take your and the car to where you can get the tire fixed.
 
Just about any modern car jack will work.
VWs, and most jap cars use a clip under the pinch seam which will work on any part of the Spridget rocker panel.
Small, they fold up, have a built in handle, and they work.
Just remember to keep your lug wrench in the boot. Or better yet, an 11/16 socket wrench.
 
I use the one from my old VW Scirocco...works like a charm and stows nicely nestled in the spare with a bungee cord (wrapped with a piece of indoor/outdoor carpet to stop rattles!!)!!!

Yes, I actually used this method on one of my first breakdowns. Just wanted to have a back up. Some of the places our local rallies do not have cell service.

Right, but I don't have the original jack and the ones advertised on the net or new ones from British car suppliers are very expensive.

Or Golf, I don't think it matters - mine just needs to be flat enough to slide under the axle or the front suspension. It's not going near the rocker panel!

Well, my old Scirocco was a '77, but I think it is just a generic VW scissor-jack! The nice thing about the VW one is that is a compact unit that closes to a pretty low profile (makes it easier to get under a Spridget!).

Honda, Acura Scissors jack same thing works fine. Same thing for Nissan most Japanese Cars have them.

If I were you, I would visit the local wrecking yards and look in some trunks! I'm sure you will find something at a MUCH more reasonable price than you will find at a dealer!!!

Now that you mention it, my wife has a CRV. It's a 2004 and we belong to AAA....so, I might just check that out. We've never used it, and she certainly won't, so maybe that's the solution.
