Cara from Lancaster Co, PA, on her first visit to
the island, wanted to try her luck at tarpon fishing.
She's never been tarpon fishing but fished stream trout
with her dad.

Here's some great action photo of Cara mixing it up with
a beautiful tarpon of about 60 pounds range. She boatsided
two today of equal size. 8# Stren line with a 4600 Penn on
a medium action carbon rod.

Doubt this big fish tale? Check out her biceps and the rod
bend!! 20 minutes to bring this warrior boatside.
A fantastic day for all of us. Ended with a CAB.
Cara's boyfriend Emilio caught nice sized Ladyfish.

OKAY.... Just HOW many people have ever been allowed to STAND on th' bow of that boat, huh? I'm bettin' just ONE. And we're witness to it.

<span style="color: #990000">Well now Doc,
Yer steppin' just a bit out of yer turf on that one.

I know just about nil of auto mechanics- that's a given truth.
But fishin' ?? I was born to it and I'm up there in the expert
category just like you are in LBCs.

My custom tarpon boat is a fishing machine. The entire bow area
is a stand-up fighting platform. It takes a duet to catch a large
tarpon. The large fish are fought off the bow platform while the
captain keeps the boat always pointed toward the fish. Remember,
we are using #8 test line on fish that get over 100#.

The tarpon are aerial jumpers and they also want to get the line
into the prop. It's the captain's job to keep the boat away from
the fish. When the fish has spooled out a few hundred yards of line
it pretty easy for the captain. The last 150 feet will wear yer
arms out spinning that wheel and turning the boat in reverse.
Here's an old photo.

Ha ha Peter !!

Yup it certainly can be installed ..........
...........................................

probably the same day I start wearing white shorts
with a dark blue golf shirt with an anchor on the pocket,
and trade in my green The Autoist baseball cap for a
blue and white Captains cap, Boat shoes, and my
cooler full of crisp white wine.

ain't gonna happen!! ha, ha, ha
THAT ain't fishin'!!!

My buddy Mateo boatsided an 80 pounder last night
at about 10:00 PM.

d

This Tarpon fishing gig sounds like fun. I have fished the wrecks in the English Channel and for any sports fishermen among you, that is a blast, but going for the big Tarpon in a place that's close to paradise would be something to remember. No cold rain there!

In the first pix I couldn't see details of the bow, looked like it was smooth and whimpy. The later (earlier) shot explains everything.

So tarpon fishin' in the pass at Boca Grande doesn't count, huh?

I grew up on water, too. But stink-pots were for draggin' my skinny butt around at the end of a rope, with a Dick Pope ski-stick attached to my feet. Real boating was done with sail and rudder.

<span style="color: #990000">Ah! You wuz one of THEM!!
Please PAHs the Grey Poupon.

Had both - sailboats & cruisers....even little old wooden runabouts....too old for sailing anymore...but might take the right cruiser, er, trawler!

I'll give ya pass on the Grey Poupon Doc,
if ya been hooked up with Silver Kings in Boca Grande!!

Here's a great video of a nice tarpon in Boca Grande.
Cara's fish were both a tad larger but the action was
the same.

Now I'm drooling as I get ready to go off-island
for 5 days. Wedding anniversary No. 19 !!

later,

How's the weather down there Dale? Talked to a Capt. yesterday who delayed sailing 'cause of some disturbance down your way (he was headin' for El Salvador!). He also mentioned that diesel was up to $7.11/gal down there. That's stiff when you're burnin' 120+gal/hr.!!! :eeek:

I saw this pretty girl at the European Car Show here last weekend.
