A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With It!

Anybody check this out? It's a Bradley conversion/restoration from Washington state. It's a beautiful job in my opinion. 210 hp and 30 MPG, with automatic tranny. Can't beat that with a stick! Great for a daily driver, or Grand Mom. Nice front end under carriage conversion and power steering along with it. (Power Steering)??? Oh well. I guess power windows, power trunk latch and electric doors are next.

Only question I have is, what car is that engine out of? I didn't notice the make anywhere.

Updated GM V6 Installations:

We are working closely with Dann Wade of British Car Conversions to offer the latest and greatest way of installing the 60-degree GM V6 into MGBs. We were so pleased with the completion of the Iris Blue GT we did last year, we just couldn’t keep from making it that much better. We have added a power-assisted steering rack from the MGOC in the UK, and the car now has just about every option that could be wished for in a modern B. Dann has designed a completely new front cover for the powerful FWD engines that will incorporate engine mounts, alternator mount, power steering pump and a mechanical water pump, all run off a single serpentine belt. Dann has expanded his range of V6 parts to include both top-of-the-line components and parts for more budget-minded installations. [/QUOTE]

I just had to send him a request for more info on this:

CoCo Mats for MGB

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

That's very nice. I'd like to assume that he'll find a good market for this quality work.

MGBGT is a great touring car, and with this stuff, it would be a killer, IMHO.

I like. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

I beg to differ! You can definitely beat it with a stick. Automatic in a sports car? /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/pukeface.gif

I just threw away some MGB coco mats you could have had for free. I didn't care for the look (kinda 70's to me) and they made a mess.

Just looking at another market Steve. There are people out there who have a problem shifting, physical or otherwise. I know two, one of which is a disabled Vet, but would just love to drive one of these cars and presently can not.

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

I understand some people don't drive stick. It was only jesting because I detest automatic transmissions. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

I can not immigian other than a stick myself but then what ever it takes so a person can have the experience.

Wouldn't an automatic be nice for parades even.

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

I personally agree Jack, that a stick shift in a sports car is the only way to go. But, I'm still looking for an MGB automatic to restore because of it's rarity. There are some in the UK but I want an original automatic LHD where all the numbers match. Probably a hopeless endever. I think Tony mentioned once that he knew of one somewhere up North. Most have been converted to stick, probably because they were very sluggish.

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

Rarity would never be enough for me to own an automatic MGB. They are dogs! Some years ago there was one for sale near me. They couldn't give it away! The MGC did much better with automatic because of its gobs of torque. They aren't that hard to find these days, either.

Auto tranny? Power steering? "Your mother would like it"?

People are building a nice range of MGB V6's these days. Check out these:

4.3L and 6-speed

DOHC, 24V
https://www.britishv8.org/MG/LeRoyBarton.htm

I've checked out the "LeRoy" one before. I'm not that crazy about it.

I like these way more

There are plenty of examples along with Guzman's V6.

Every time the thought of modernizing the MG comes, my wife wants to shoot me and starts making that wining sound "Why would you want to bastardize the baby car?". I see reflections of Steve and Darrin chasing me with big knives and guns in their hands, and then I come to my senses.

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

If I had a gun, I wouldn't need to chase you. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Personally I prefer this for a big-engined M.G. (waiting for Rick's response)

I bought my 1969 MGC with automatic from an enthusiast in St.Louis who could NOT have driven an MG with a standard transmission because of his handicap. He loved the car....and cried when I took her away....but needed the money.

Re: A Nice V6 Conversion. And, An Automatic With I

I know of several Pre-war and early post-war MGs that were adapted for people with disabilities, including double leg amputees! I'd love to see one of them up close to see how they engineered such systems in the early days of automobiles.
