a new U.S made baffled fuel tank?

I've located a guy out west that is currently in the process of creating the tooling to produce new baffled fuel tank specifically for MG's.

he currently is selling baffled tanks for the early models of MGB.

In my correspondance with him to thank him for the venture, and to express my interest. He has asked if I would be willing to part with my tank so that he may use it as a template.

--My tank is off and I was going to have it boiled out and coated. but, this may be a better option in the long run.
seeing as how I only have the one tank, and fuel delivery is my only current issue keeping me from driving...

What do you all think? Should i send out my original tank as a template, or clean/fix it locally and try to use it? (very rusty, lots of little pin holes)

I'd do it. Is he willing to give you a tank in exchange for yours? If not then I would think it would be cheaper to have your tank fixed locally.

What's the guys email or web address? I'm interested in finding out more about his venture. I'm in the process of restoring a 71 B and may be interested in one of his tanks.

I should know something in the next couple of days. i sent an email asking about how the exchange would work and wht estimated time frame i/we may be looking at.

Pardon me for being selfish, but as soon as I decide what to do at that point in time I'll post his (web published) contact information.

just a note- I'm not getting anything for this post. I'm just passing along something i think many of us could benefit from in the future.

If any one wants more information, contact this gentleman (Jorge) his web-posted email is jorgecervera218@hotmail.com
and his website is (under construction)

I'm sure he would be happy to talk to you. he seems to be a decent fellow so far.

Look at his product carefully. I bought an early MGB tank from him last year off of ebay at what seemed to be a good price. Initial impression was that it was a well made product. Several weeks later when I installed it, I found the "brackets" for the straps were not in the correct place and made the installation more difficult. I can and have lived with that.

BUT the bigger problem was that the full pickup tube in the tank was not installed correctly and the tank needed almost 7 (yes that's seven) gallons of gas to reach the level where it would work.

When I contacted him his response was basically what did I expect for the price I paid, that he wasn't interested in trying resolve the problem, and that he wasn't going to stand behind his product and not to bother him again!!

After spending several hours (with much difficulty) I managed to move the pickup tube to where it only needed 2 gallons of fuel to work. When I get the opportunity I will be fixing up the original tank and reinstalling it.

If you buy from him, be careful and inspect your tank carefully (inside and out) before installing it and filling it with gas!!

Just my $.02.

thanks for that inside information. I do appreciate it!

I personally have decided not to go with this guy because I would like to drive my B sometime this summer (and I can't do that very well if they have my tank, now could I?)
