A New Sprite Owner

Greetings everyone. My Name is Chris and I'm from Iowa. I was just given my fathers 1966 Austin Healey Sprite for my 39 birthday. It has been in our family since 1967 when my father was in high school. After he graduated from high school in 1969 the motor blew and he went into the Navy. The car sat in my grandparents garage until 1983 when my grandmother called and said to get the car out of the garage or it was getting scraped. Well dad and I brought it home on a golf cart trailer and started putting it back together. After 4 months we got her back up and runnig. I was the one that got to turn the key and bring life back into this great car. So now fast foreward to last Sunday, my family and I we're out for dinner and my mother said they have an "early" birthday present. She hads me a card and I feel it and say " dosen't feel like a Ferrari.", running joke for the past 15 years, I open the card and there stareing me in the face is the title to the Sprite. This has to be the second most emotional moment next to my childeren being born, I knew someday the car would be passed down to me but not this soon. So now I will have the enjoyment of taking my childeren to summer cruises and the occasional run to the ice cream shop and hopefully someday I'll pass it down to one of my childeren.

Nice looking car, congratulations! Here's to hoping you get miles of smiles from it.

There is one more cruise this weekend, Cruise to the Woods, that I'll be taking her out then next week getting ready to pull the engine for new rings. During this time I can have the heads done so I can run unleaded fuel. I figure sooner than later there won't be any companies making lead substitute(sp) anymore so I might as well switch over.

Nice! Congrats, welcome and happy birthday

Great Story! What a wonderful thing to hand down to the next generation.

I showed your pictures to my son Peter last night, he said "that's a great looking car!"
He keeps asking me "Dad when are we going to get that RWA tub??"
Patience is a virtue.

Our shed is up, now we just have to fill it with cars and parts and start putting them together.

Your car looks great, I know you're going to get lots of enjoyment from it!

Very nice looking and welcome.

Cris:
Well, I'm in Akron and Toolamore is in Ames. Flatwater Austin Healey club is out of Omaha and Lincoln and there all British show is Sunday. Very nice looking Sprite. I've a Mk3 that I only could wish to look that good sometime in the future.(few more spridgets as well)

Kurt.

It really is, but of course there are a few nicks and chips here and there but not bad for having 53,048 original miles.

Great story and great looking car. I hope my '67 will someday look exactly like it, color and all.
