This Ole Dog And Me
Composed by AweMan

We`ve been through a lot, this ole dog an me
Come out west from over in Tenneessee

When I got him he was just a ball of fur
Some said he would probably, just be a cur

It didnt seem to matter much to me
I decided to keep him, just to see

I didnt even know what breed he was
That didnt matter either, just because

We traveled far and we traveled wide
He grew bigger and slept by my side

We got caught by a storm in the Rockys in 1873
coming out west from over in Tenneessee

We took up shelter in an abandoned mine
Me, the horse and this ole dog of mine

The wind blew hard and it got mighty cold
But this ole dog lay by my side and warmed up my soul

This ole dog and I, tired of the roam
staked us some ground and built us a home

We worked that ranch, through good times and hard
Me and this ole dog, he`s my pard

Years has gone by, oh how time seems to fly
Me and this ole dog, like the month of july

This ole dog, he`s gettin kinda old
He doesn`t seem to like it much, out in the cold

Many memories this ole dog an I have
But now this ole dog`s lookin real sad

This ole dog can`t hardly get around
I went out one mornin and found him feelin` down

I went and got the vet, to see what he could do
He took one look and said i`m sorry, i`ve got bad news

Your dog has seen better days, he`s been around
The time has come, time for you to put him down

I sat in my old chair my face was a frown
I didn`t have the heart to put the ole boy down

Some time went by, I don`t know how long
I just couldn`t do it, I knew it was wrong

I just sat there staring out into space
Just sat there with tears, streaming down my face

The ole boy let out a sigh and then passed away
The vet picked him up and took him away

I`m gonna miss that ole dog,
But I know, i`ll see him again someday.

Good story. Sounds like it comes from deep inside.

Thanks,
It doesn`t happen often {Me writing poetry} but when the RARE accasion happens it`s usualy pretty good {at least in my opinion} I have written about 15 poems {Most wayyyyyyyyy too mushy for the guys here} /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crazyeyes.gif

I've written several too. I always thought they were good, then I'd go back later and decide they were kinda hokey. Oh well. Maybe I'll get up the guts to share one someday.
SOme of my favorite reading is Samuel Taylor Coleridge and Robert W. Service.
I can't tell you how many times I've read the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Kubla Kahn, The Cremation of Sam MaGee, The Shooting of Dan MaGrew, and others.
Always liked Poe as well, but I'm not always in a dark enough mood for him.
Keep writing Kerry. it's a gift you have.

Thanks Kerry, I have to admit it hit a raw cord with me and I will never forget my ole dog Molly.

Nice work, Kerry. Captures a good feel. You should write more!

Kerry
Writing poetry is part of what you are, and you write very well. Thanks for sharing a part of your soul through this poem.
I, for one, enjoyed it very much and could take more.
Dave
P.S. this is you and remember, the one thing you can do better than anyone else is be you! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thankyousign.gif
