A mystery wrapped in an enigma

Took my 6 out for a ride Thur. eve. with no problems. Tonite I thought "let's go again" BUT no headlights. Every other light works, and the flash to pass works, just no headlights. Where do I start?
Maybe this was a Friday the 13th warning that saved me from hitting a bus full of nuns, more likely, a Lucas ghost.

Did you park next to Soup's car??

Check the ground at the front and the headlight connection there as well.

" A mystery wrapped in an enigma "

The answer is Russia. Quoted from Winston Churchill during WWII, if I remember correctly.

"A riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma"

It wouldn't be the grounds, because his 'flash to pass' works.

There are only three possibilities.

1. The light switch is bad.
2. The connector between the light switch and the dimmer switch is bad.
3. The dimmer switch is bad.

The blue wire from the light switch is the one that goes to the connector, and onto the dimmer switch. I would start out by checking for voltage on the blue wire at the dimmer switch. If you have voltage there, then check to see if you have any voltage coming out on the blue/red or the blue/white. The blue/red feeds the low beams, the blue/white feeds the high beams. Work the dimmer back and forth and see if things start to work. If not, then the dimmer switch is kaput.

If you don't have voltage at the blue wire at the dimmer switch, then back track up to the light switch and see where you're losing it. Remember, there is a connector along the way. If you have no voltage at the blue wire from the light switch, then the light switch is the problem.

The 'flash to pass' is on a different circuit even though the switch for that is in the light switch.

I had my dimmer switch (floor button) stick once. Results were the same, no headlights but lights everywhere else. I cycled the switch a few times and my headlights came back. It was weird. First and only time that has happened with my car.

I already tried the floor button, which is new, and that is not it. I will try the other suggestions.

Martx-5 got me motivated in the Duh!!!! thread, so went out and got Dan Masters book out, and bingo a bad connection!
All fixed. If you do not have wiring knowlege, and own a tr6, YOU NEED THIS BOOK !!!!!!
Thanks to all again.

You gotta think outside the bun.

Now see, that was easy! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
