Growing up we all knew Mom was in the Waves. She rarely talked about what she did though. It was in the mid 90s that we found out that she helped keep track of all the ships locations (BIG secret back then). We asked why she never told us about it, She said "They told me that I couldn't talk about it, so I didn't"
