A little help with this software.

I want to know when someone has commented a post
to a thread I've posted. I hope many of you do not
think me rude. Maybe you've asked me a question or the
like. If I don't respond, it's because it is buried
somewhere and missed.

Previously, I checked to be notified when a post came
through, etc. Must have done something wrong, because
every single post made to the Triumph Forum came to my
e-mail.

Can someone enlighten me, please, to use the software
more efficiently?

Thanks,

Click on "Topic Options" at the top of the thread, hit "Add to Your Watched Topics". Then go to "My Stuff", "Watch Lists", and edit your email notification preference under "Edit Watched Topics".
Should work, but I'm a neophyte.

It's a great question! All the other forums I'm on send me an email when there's a reply to a post I started or have replied to. I've never found out how to set that up on britishcarforum.

While we're on the subject of forum features, in the Search facility, why is the default length of time to search back 1 week? I always have to fiddle about and set it to the maximum of 6 years, since I don't want to miss anything! Perhaps the 1 week default is to save CPU power on the server?

I always want to read everything, so I never looked at that feature. I especially enjoy how the threads usually end up being nothing about the subject.

I imagine if there are enough requests, Basil could change the default to whatever folks want.

The Search feature that I'd really appreciate is having only one thread show up instead of *all* the threads that have the searched-for topic. Click the thread in the Search Results, and that takes you to all the related posts anyway.

Example: Today, if you search for "alternator" in the subject field, over the last year, you get twelve pages of posts, 25 posts per page. That's nearly 300 posts. But there are only 36 different threads (subjects).

For me at least, it would sure be easier to choose from 36 different threads, than 300 similar posts.

2wrench - sounds like you've got your Watch Lists set to "Watch this Forum" instead of to individual Topics. As Bugeye says, go to your Watch Lists, click the Forums tab at the top, and remove the Forums that (I'll bet) are listed.

I too find it bothersome to look at individual posts rather then just the thread.
