The metal flat rod that goes across the windsheld in side the top on a Bugeye.

What size should it be? I seem to remember 1/8th X 5/8th but that is not available as a stock size. Can someone please measure for me. Thanks.
 
What are you talking about... oh wait, you have one of those new fangled bugeyes with a streamline-easy to fasten top. I just have a bunch of dots to lift.
 
LOL, yep the streamline one. Hmmm, maybe it is 1/8 X 1/2 inch?

I can get this size in Alum at the local hardware 4 feet long for 7 bucks.
 
Jack, just ran out and measured mine. 5/8" is right for the width, but I dont think it is 1/8" thick, it seems a tad thinner to me (maybe 'cause its the rusty, old original!)! Rounded at the ends with a 1/8" hole drilled at each end (not sure what for though, maybe to aid in sliding it in - easier to pull through than push!) and remember it does have a bow in it that conforms to the bend of the windscreen frame! :thumbsup:
 
Well after checking with Ace, Home Depot, Lowes, and another unbranded hardware I found no 1/8 X 1/2 inch bar stock to make a front header rail for my top. Any clues as to where I should be looking?

That's probably best Jack! As simple a part as it looks, it does need to have a slight compound curve to it to fit the frame correctly!! :wink:
 
Just a straight peice of metal. In fact I ordered in alum.

Tis the rear peice that is a pain with the bends both ways on both ends but I have one of those.

I think you should just revert to the lift the dots.
 
I think you will find it isn't just a straight bar Jack, but at least you are getting aluminium, which is easier to bend!! :thumbsup:
