A little drive

Was wondering if you'd get by Lane's Museum. Great place; not to be missed if you're anywhere near Nashville!
 
This morning we drove 441 through Smokey Mountain Park over to Cherokee which is just past te entrance of the Blue Ridge Pkwy. We then turned around and drove back ans wpent the afternoon at Dollywood. Rode the train and took in a couple shows. We did not know what to expect and had a good time.

Oh, on 441 there is a complete loop where the road goes through a tunnel and over it. I wanted a photo of the sign and Shirley missed it both ways so we had to turn around and go through two more times. It was fun. And so many people gathering around the car asking questions and just looking. We also ran into a family from a town only about 15 miles from our home.

So tomorrow we head out for the "Tail" then on up the BRP.

Funny how 3,500 miles seemed a long way but we are 1/3rd the way already.
 
We did the Dragon this morning. Ran it with three Harley's and had a great time. Shirley took a lot of video, when she could sit up to hold the camera.

We are in Ashville onight. Had a beautiful day to drive the Blue Ridge. Going to see if Hap will be around tomorrow. if he is we will drive over to see him.

We stopped in at Deal's Gap after the run to say good by to the three guys we ran with. Aparently did not go unnoticed. We stooped at a wayside not far from Ashville and a guy came over. He said he heard we were at Deal's Gap in the morning. I asked how he knew and he said the word had spread.
 
Ah....life in a small town area. Word spreads fast about new kids in town.
 
Our car has been getting a lot of attention. The usual "I had one when" or "I knew one that had one" and "we just don't see somethem anynmore".

Shirley and I have only seen 3 LBC's in he 1500 miles we have traveled so far. But we know they are around.

Tom, up in the mountains is the place to be in this area. There's a heat wave upon us, hot as Hades. But temps should be much better up on the BRP.

If you're near Rockfish Gap (at the southern entrance to the Skyline Drive) take a quick detour off the BRP to I-64E to Charlottesville and Monticello, home of Thomas Jefferson. A stunning place, never ceases to wow new visitors. Madison's and Monroe's homes are nearby, also. Many great restaurants, B&Bs, etc. here too.

Watch out for speeding/crazy motorcycles on the "Dragon", the place is lousy with them this time of year! :yesnod:

Thanks for the positive reinforcement, I wasn't sure if it was boring or OK.

We got a late start today but traveled a bit anyway.

Before we started I called a friend back home to let him know we are doing well and having a fun time. I am sure he will let everyone know at our regular Tuesday cruise night. Then we loaded up and headed outfor Hap's shop in Geensille, SC. We had a nice visit and talked some shop.

We left Hap and drove back to Ashville to get back on the Parkway. I had the only problem of the trip with low blood sugar. Came on fast qne did not notice the symptoms until it was pretty far along. Shirley knew what to do and after a half hour we were ready to go again.

So we got back on the BRP and stopped at the visiter center then the folk art center. Both very interesting. On our way to Mt Mitchell we got into rain and put the top up. As we made our way up the mountain we broke through the rain but the fog was getting worse. We decided it a good idea to go back down and head north. About 4 miles later we put the top down again. BTW-Mt Mitchell is the highest point east of the Mississippi, 6,684'.

Tonight we are in Blowing Rock, NC. Home of the Tweetsie RR. That and metting a friend of Peter C are on the agenda for tomorrow. Then we will go back to the Lynn Cove Viaduct for a bette look.

It was hot in Greenville and better in Ashville. The mountains were great before about 4pm but got chilly after that. Was thinking of getting a jacket.
 
Grandfather Mountain (somewhat close to Blowing Rock) is a nice visit, if you have the time. Nice roads around that area, too.

Sounds like a great trip, keep the posts coming!

We drove past Grandfaher Mountain last evening. Grtting ready to go back before heading further north. Had to ride the Tweetsie's #190 this morning. I am also a rail fan and enjoyed a visit with the engineer and fireman. The engineer was the same that was driving #192 at Dollywood last Sunday. He opened the shed where #12 is so I coule get some photos of it.

Thanks for the stripe comment. I just tried some pin stripe tape a little darker than the red in the red lint tires that were on the car when I bought it. I like it too and plan on having them painted on when the car gets painted.
 
I spent every Easter break (that's what it was called in the dark ages) hiking the Shenandoahs for years.
One of the first places I took my wife was Birds nest #4. She almost broke an ankle walking down on some ice.

Well, we met Mickey and Janet. Even saw his church. But did not see his car. Hmmmmmmmm? But I am sure it is real!

So, here is a photo of Shirley and I on Mt Mitchell with te elevation marker near the peak. Something that amazed me was that our GPS was showing the same elevation as the sign.

The other photo is under the Linn Cove Viaduct. It shows myself and one of the rocks that caused the fuss over building the road in the first place. I'm the one in the white shirt.

We will be in Shanandoah next week. We will be getting lifetime National Park Passes when we enter the park.

I hope to meet a friend of Peter C here in Blowing Rock tomorrow morning before heading for Mt Airy.

Every time I was on that mountain. It looked just like that too!
 
We had a nice leisurley drive today. Our only dissappointment so far was that the section of the parkway with the mid-point was closed for construction and we had to detour around it. But the incredible beauety we have seen overall greatly diminishes that dissapointment.

We did not make as many stops as usual. But we did stop at the Traiding Post and the Blue Grass Curtural Center. Like other shops along the way there were different craft items by local artists and like before we bought a few things.
The Curtural Center was all about Mountain Music which meant mostly Blue Grass. We were treated to a live show by a man in his 60's, his son-in-law, and grandaughter. They were excellent and we stayed for a good while just to listen, they were selling CD's so you know what happened. They did sign them for us though.

Just as we were getting ready to leave a touring group of old cars rolled in. There were about a dozen. I include a couple photos. This group came from Iowa and a few surrounfing states.

Tonight we are in Mt Airy, NC. We just returned from a drive through town. Took a couple hours off before going to let the sun go down a little. Tommorow we have a few places to visit and then it will be time to get the TR6 ready for the show on Saturday. We are looking forward to meeting the folks in the club and others.

The folks we have met on this trip have made it a very special time. I highly recommend it to everyone.
