A little about Smiths gauges...

TR3driver said:
Mazda went one step further (downright cheating if you ask me) ... on the Miata/MX5 the OP sender is a simple switch but it drives a gauge. If the OP is high enough to close the switch, the gauge reads 3/4 scale.

That's true on the '95+ Miatas. The '90-'94 models have a real oil pressure gauge. On the 2006+ MX-5's, they really went bizzare. The sending unit for oil pressure is a simple on/off switch, but then the ECU takes info from various sensors, such air and coolant temperature, engine rpm etc., and uses that info to simulate a real oil pressure gauge. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cryin.gif No, I'm not making this up.

hmmm... Kinda like when I'd lick me finger, stick it up inna air, and proclaim what f-stop 'n shutter speed to use from the "reading"... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Bah!

I just "bracket" the results of the last known good exposure.

1 f/stop each way...

Never let me down.

'course I used 3 times as much philm.

Gotta love digital. Don't like it? Delete it and shoot again.

yeah, yeah... see my "points vs. MSD" comments in that other thread.

'course I grew up doin' "splash 'n dash" processing as a kid. 4x5 sheet to 35mm. Press deadlines an' all.

Digital will grow up, just not tomorrow. It's VERY good at the high end, now. And with a couple bags full of prime Nikkor glass I'm a bit bitter. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif

Doc,

Digital was made for guys like me who want a decent picture with no effort (read as training and work) involved. If we screw up, we re-shoot.

We're not dark room junkies and never could be. We don't go after action sports or racing shots that are a one in a million capture.

I wish that I had the talent, time and energy to learn to be a good photographer. But I'd rather use those limited resources to play with my TR6 and easily post the results here.

My daughter, on the other hand, loves photography and is VERY pleased with the DSLR Olympus that I bought her for Christmas. She, unlike me, reads manuals and takes classes.

I point, shoot and get in the TR6 and drive......

Seeing as we are way OT here...

Some from Reno this year...

My last official "job" was the DP on a movie called Thunder Over Reno.

Got to ride in lots of cool planes.

Hanging out of them with the camera at foolish speeds actually...

So to round out my shameless self-promotion OT here:

Uh...what's that blue stuff above the planes? Here it's always gray up there....

Ahhh Reno, where the humidity is none with a zero.

Garwsh, I'm poet and didn't know it!

Hrumph.

I did it for the USAF. No credit line most times... "USAF Photo".

...and an 'extra' $60 or so in the paycheck.

feh.

The tach adapters are about $40 from Summit Racing. It did not make the Smiths repro tach work. It was inaccurate and shaky. It also did not make the VDO tach work. The VDO just always read way too high. Once I switched to the Autometer, I didn't need the tach adapter. It worked great from the get go. Ernie

Ernie, thats interesting...

I'd used one once before on a 442 for a friend and it worked good.

Sorry about that...
