Refurbishing the The wiper motor is on the list of things to do. I was just curious as to what purpose the GAP in the brass lid serves? An interrupter of sorts I imagine.
I was looking at this set up before I took it apart trying to figure out how “this motor moves those wipers”. As it turned out it’s deviously simple.
Thoughts?
 
Looks like a stop to change direction or stop blades from going past window screen. Might also help with parking blades when done. Better picture and mark so you are on the money on reassembly.
 
That's the contactor that powers the motor from when you turn the switch off until it reaches the park position. Earlier motors did not have the auto park, so you had to bump the switch until the wipers reached parked.
