I took advantage of the lack of rain or falling snow today and got the Tunebug out for a drive before lunch. Wasn't that warm at my place (maybe 50f) but with a little bundling up I was off.
I headed up towards Wolf Creek pass, which is one of my favorite pass roads near my house. Goes up to just over 9400 feet (from 5500 at my house) and is nice and twisty. I expected it to still be closed for the winter and was surprised to see the winter gate open (though the road was still labeled as closed).
I saw no reason to stop, so up and over I went! The Tunebug did great, easily holding 4000 RPM in 3rd with the temp needle just touching the "1" in "190" on the dial. This is a pretty steep road, so that's quite reasonable pulling power. Hap did his work well.
Up and over I went, stopping at my normal turn around point and heading back over towards home. About an 80 mile round trip.
This was arguably my first real sports car drive. I'm still taking it easy on the Tunebug, but as we're out of the break-in period I am driving it with some vigor. I did wind up with *very* cold hands, as it was probably only in the 30s at the top of the pass. Still, good fun!
