A great acquisition for America On Wheels

A few months ago I learned that America On Wheels museum here in Allentown was looking to add a snackbar in the upstairs section of the old brick office building that is part of our current building. Since I enjoy old diners, and was helping with some photos of them for our summer youth education programs as well as the Pure Muscle show at the museum, I was asked to meet with the architects when they presented their plans. I was disappointed to see a "retro" diner that looked nothing like an original diner, but after the presentation, a board member told us of a vintage soda fountain he had found on line. Even the architects were excited about the find. Since then the fountain has been acquired, and several guys from AOW have been in the act of dismantling it for transfer to Allentown. The local paper in Greene County, IN posted this article concerning the departure of their vintage soda fountain.

Looks like it will be great. Since I missed the VRG meeting out there, I have to get out and see AoW sometime this year.

By the way,

What a neat article. There was an old soda fountain here in Elmira up onto the 90s."Lovells". Sadly, the old man passed, and his son was not interested. I believe all the fountain equipment was sold, and now the building is falling apart.
I loved going there for floats and ice cream. it was great! Too bad someone didn't save that one too.
If I were a half witted business person I'd find an old fountain and open it in Watkins Glen. I'd make a killing.

oooh! almost forgot.
HAPPY B-DAY DAVE!!!

H-B Dave. And many more.

Happy Birthday - and thanks for sharing, I love stuff like that!

Happy Birthday Dave.

One of my to-dos is to go see this museum in Allentown.
Thanks for keeping us up to date on it.

Dave :savewave:

Dave...likewise HAPPY BD...let me know if you need backup soda jerks..put many an ice frosted mug of A&W out during my High School years in KC...still even remember how to mix the syrup batch...yummm!

That is so very cool!! Did you get the pinball machine, juke box and ice cream freezer(?) too?

Too cool! I got a few 45s I'd donate if you could use them. I like them, but I never really listen, and I can convert them to digital so I still have the music.
I'm gonna get me a pinball machine some day.

Sure thing Dave. I've just spent the entire weekend repainting the bathroom, I know the 45's are in my spare bedroom,(the next project on the list) but I also know they're buried. We don't have an attic, so that room is our catch-all. As soon as I get some free time, I'll dig 'em out and send you the titles.

Here are a few photos of the space that will become the Hub Cap Cafe.
