I know I've asked a lot of questions lately, but I'd rather get all this done correctly rather than botch it on my own.

1) Is there any way to un-seize a smog pump other than installing it with the belt really tight and revving the engine until it breaks loose?

2) The cylinder head bolts, nuts and studs: Can they be safely re-used? I only ask because I've got the intake manifold removed, and it would be really easy to remove the head and change the gasket (I have the gaskets already) and I don't really have $80 to spend on a new set. Any advice? (Don't tell me not to be cheap /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif )

3) And finally, that lifting eye that mounts on the front of the block... How is it oriented? Is the eye facing the rear side of the block, or the front? My tr7 didn't have one installed when I got it, but the box of junk in the trunk had one in there.

sometimes head bolts can be reused, sometimes they cant. some range rovers use a non-retorqueable bolt (they stretch when torqued -- you torque a certain number of degrees past when seated). to be safe, i usually replace headbolts; especially on something i want to drive hard.
 
When the opportunity is there, replace them. Cheaper now than later.
 
I spent $500 one time having a professional put in a new head gasket on my 76 coupe. They know right? The mechanic reused the bolts.

The job never did cure the problem which was a coolant leak. A year later I blew the head gasket warped the head and ended up with the car off the road for six months. I then spent $700 on machine shop work plus $80 for a new set of bolts. *I* did the work the right way this time and haven't regreted anything except for paying a dolt to reuse bolts.

I won't tell you not to be cheap -- but I'm throwing a broad hint your direction not to be stupid /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

1) Smog Pump. Doubtful you can do it that way and have it still work. I assume you just need it to be present for inspection? If so, take it apart and chip out the crud. The pump won't work anymore but it will pass an inspection perhaps. Better to keep an eye out for a used one that turns by hand. eBay is good.

3) Lifting hook. Turned out so that it is basically vertical.
 
I'm getting new bolts. Found a good new set at a good price /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

as for the smog pump, I'm looking at moving and need the pump there for inspection. Mine had a faulty check valve and no belt so the diverter valve and the pump are both carboned up.

Now a new question. I have an early model car with the side engine stabiliser thing. I removed the A/C compressor, and the big bracket this morning and noticed the bracket for that stabiliser has 2 spacers on one side, and the other rested on the end of the A/C bracket. For all of you that took out your A/C what did you do to solve this problem?
