A Few Interesting Vehicles

Took the Midget for a drive down Highway 220 today. In Oak Level,VA
there's a second hand store with a bunch of interesting vehicles around it.
Up the driveway is a wrecking yard, where I saw a few interesting things.
There were two Saab Sonnets (late model),a Toyota FX16,a Porsche 914,and
a decent 1973 Toyota Hilux pickup that didn't look too bad.
I didn't think to pull the camera out.Maybe next time.

Like I said,I'll try & get some the next time I'm there.
Please do - you do manage to spy some very interesting cars. Nothing as interesting as a Sonnet around here (I don't think I have ever seen one in the flesh)

There's also a closed down auto repair shop not far from there
that has at least three Fiat 500/600s.I keep hoping to catch someone
there & look at them.

Mostly because Saab's weren't sold in Canada until 1976, sales started in the United States back in the early 1960's, I have seen one Sonnet in Canada and that's it, owned by a collector in Edmonton... I think my favourite Saab is the either the 95 or 96 from the 1960's, again few and far between up north here...

If you take an 850 engine and mount it mid into a 500/600 with it's trans turned around it will work.
850 and 600s spin opposite.
I was actually planning on doing this since I had an extra 850 lump.
Unfortunately, I couldn't get a usable 500/600 for a decent price.
Back in the late sixties I had more guts than brains.

Went back today & took pictures.I took the Miata,as
it was supposed to be almost 90,& didn't go down
back roads like I normally do.
The first ones are at Dave's place, along Highway 220,
in Oak Level,VA.I believe they're all for sale.

Very nice! I visited one rather large scrapyard last year here in Alberta, several acres of scrap cars, a mix of vintage and new, it is run as a business... I did spot only the second Simca I've ever seen there... I know there are lots of interesting import classic cars there, only had time to explore a small section of what they have...

great pics - I am not aware of any yards with cars of that vintage around here

Doug - what's the small yellow car being off-loaded? Photos 034 and 035.
Thanks.
Tom M.

Those are Fiat 500/600s.Since they're on private property,
behind a locked gate,I took those from the road.

Tracked down the owner of the Fiats today,& he gave me permission to
go onto his property & see them .There were a few other interesting cars there,
& a '69 Mach1 the looked very restorable behind the rusty old American car -
not sure what it was.

On the way down there I saw a Studebaker pickup going in the opposite direction,
& a '53 Studebaker Starlight coupe on the back of a trailer, heading South.
Along the way,the was a 1970 Cougar Eliminator & a '68 Torino GT in a carport.

Thanks Dougl I do believe I see a Citroen (DS?) in that collection.
