For my grey old head, this sure brings back some good memories -

You too?

(wow - over 40 years ago ... )

No, sorry. Call me a curmudgeon, but this song and "You Light Up My Life" are two syrupy songs I got sick of hearing in my "ute."

Non-curmudgeon here.

I dislike Coca-Cola and all the related health issues it has probably spawned.
But I like that commercial for it's simple message and diversity.

And while I never drink the stuff, my wife drinks several Cokes a year. She says it's great to have one as a treat on a rare occasion.

Actually, memories of that old Coke ad bring me *out* of curmudgeon-hood. Just graduated from college, in my first real job, ready to change the world, lots of hope - and seeing things (slowly) getting better.

Anybody want to see a photo of me with long hair, bell bottom trousers, and flower shirt?

Maybe we need a thread for all those outfits we all thought were the height of fashion once and now wonder what we were thinking, like my blue prom tux...

Oh yes Please!
I have some hilarious ones! (this is me as a kid in Ireland with my Aunt Lil.......but I have some equally bad ones as a teenager in the US)

YES, Where are they at Tom? I'm glad I don't have a picture of me in my green high collar, wide lapel bell bottom suit and wing shoes! I can't believe I wore that back then! :highly_amused: PJ

Well it is simple, I'll give it that.

Around that time I had enlisted in the Air Force thinking it would be a 6 year deal. 24 years later...started a second career.
For me the songs that "take me back" are tunes like "Roundabout," "Ventura Highway," "Maggie May," Horse With No Name.". etc.

Well, if you're giving me a choice....

I saw the spirit of the Coke commercial at the grocery store yesterday when the Coke guy and the Pepsi guy were restocking the shelves a few feet away from each other and laughing and joking. I asked them, "Shouldn't you two be rolling around on the floor with each other slugging it out?" The reply was great, "Naw, we love each other. We got to stick together, we're all we got because the store managers hate us."

My son Paul works for Pepsi and would echo that!

And Tom - that song's message should be sung. Now more than ever.

And there ain't nuttin' better:

Mickey - agree with you there! And that Andrews Sisters version of the song was a #1 hit in the USA back during WW2.

If you want a good story, look up the history of the song. Lots of "borrowing" and legal issues involved. Check out the changes from the original:

Since the Yankees came to Trinidad
They have the young girls going mad
The young girls say they treat them nice
And they give them a better price.

to:

Since the Yankee come to Trinidad
They got the young girls all goin’ mad
Young girls say they treat ’em nice
Make
Trinidad like Paradise.

Yikes!

I was in Air Force blues then. Just into my first year of the six. Always thought the tune to be a bit sappy.
