A Door Handle Story

When I first hung the doors on my TR3, and was adjusting them for fit and closure with latch at the back, I noticed that in order to open the doors, I had to lift up on the handles. They would not open in the downward direction as intuition told me they should. Well, being that the door handles are below knee level, lifting them up to open actually made more sense, so I left it that way. This morning at a Triumph tech session at Tony's from RATCO, there was a TR3 we were doing some work on, and I noticed that you had to push down to open the doors. I asked another fellow there who has a TR3B what direction he has to go to open his doors, and he said down.

Obviously, something is screwy with my door handles, which are new units from Moss. I went back home and worked the door handles a few times. Nothing changed...I have to lift to open. Then, as I'm looking, I realized why they work opposite of how they are supposed to...

I've got the handles pointing in the wrong direction!!

Maybe I'll just leave it that way, as I like lifting the handles to open the door. It's easier.

Funny how many first time passengers try to open the doors on my TR3 by lifting the handle. The frame inside has a dent now because of the number of times it has happened.

At least they aren't droopy. I see so many otherwise fine TR3s that have the handles drooping down about 15 degrees below the horizontal. Easily fixed with a shim and JBWeld though I can't remember off-hand exactly how I did it.

I give you credit for posting that.

Can't you at least try to find someone to blame it on?

How about Dale? He seems happy enough now..............
