Taken in the summer of 1980 (maybe '79), in Cornwall. Me and the Spitfire.

Steve - great picture. Looks like a very happy guy there. Still have the Spitfire?

By the way, I like your avatar picture very much. Any connection with the *other* type of Spitfire?

Nice!

So you had a Triumph before you figured out MGs were better.
(kidding...kidding Triumph guys!)

Looks like a 1500 without the Mae West US federal bumpers. Bet it has twin carbs and the steering wheel on the "wrong" side too.
And obviously a Mk 1 Cortina with the peace-sign tail-lights.
I think that's a Riley mini on the other side.

I have a ton of old snaps like that on the last link of my Events page.

Why do we always look so skinny in those old shots. :jester:

Probably because those pictures all predate the prolific high fructose corn syrup
Neat pic.

I just had a friend post a bunch of pics from a camp we all worked at 30 years ago. was amazed how skinny we were. we are still affiliated with a camp and the staff as a whole are definitely larger than the staff (as a whole)were 30 years ago - makes me realize how serious the childhood obesity stats really are - sigh (BTW sorry to highjack the thread)

Tom, the avatar picture is the "Missing Man" formation, I put it up there when we lost Tony Barnhill, still can't bring myself to change it, yet..... :frown:

The Spitfire is long gone, but I'd love another.

Boy, ain't that the truth! Pic below is from Sept. '66. I was 20 at the time, and weighed about 150, maybe less...waist was 27". TR4 is a '63 with the white dash. Picture taken outside of Northeastern University in Boston.

Me in 74/75 with what I thought was my first sports car. What can I say but, I was wet behind the ears and didn't know any better.

Remember it well John.

It's time to remind me to ask you about your ol 3 that's campaigned on the West coast. Portland is in 2 weeks

Great picture, Doc. Don't remember much about 1975 though -- I was only 3.

Doc,

You had a Lotus that actually ran? - I thought that was an urban myth.

Ian,

Cortina estate next to the B?

I haven't heard from the current owner for quite some time, so put in a request for an update.

I was looking at some old photos of the car yesterday. I'd forgotten just how much work I did to it!

Doug, it looks like a Mark 3 estate.

I had an S2 Elan, but no pics survive of that one. I also had an S4 Sprint that I used to surprise motorbikes around the twisty's (sigh).

Shown before, but here is the TR5 again (double sigh).

The fella with the F/A DeTomato I crewed for in the late '70's ran a T/C Europa as his daily, we'd nose-to-tail thru the local two-lane twisties in western PA and do that nonsense. Local Policia came to know us by description... but somehow we never got an official reprimand.
