picked up my healey today and things seem to be going great - still getting the hang of driving a standard but i imagine that will come in time.

one minor detail - the glove box door seems to be pushed in too far, and i can't figure out how to unjam it... any ideas?

Congrats on your new Healey! That glove box door should pull open with little resistance. There are no hidded methods, just press the release button and give it a tug.
 
If it is the wood to wood contact that is hanging it up, do NOT sand. Use the back end of a candle to rub the surfaces. It will keep the finish and allow for a smooth glide. A small drop of sewing machine oil (no parifin)on the hing and lock/ketch.
 
I just looked at my BJ8. There are two metal things at the top. One is the chrome catch for the lock. The other,to the right, is a stop with a rubber button. This second one you could be pushed back with a stiff flat metal probe since it is rather thin. The first you may have to pry it upword. A harder way would be to remove the two dozen(?)screws around the exterior back of the fiber board box (not easy at the top). I'd just judiciously apply pressure to a pry bar.
