a-arm fulcrum grease nipple

so the machine shop got the two a-arm fulcrum pins out without much tado. i read that it is a good idea to put a second grease nipple on the other side of the a-arm fulcrum pin where a plug normally sits. my question is whether i could tap a new plug and just install that as opposed to threading a screw plug (like the other side).
 
apparently they were in great shape to start with and came out with only a little heat and persuasion. the threads are in good shape. i was told that the pin that goes through the kingpin was damaged, but i was surprised they even got that out. all in all a good day. now that the fulcrum pins are out it's off to powder coat. black of course!

I not sure what you mean. I drill and tap the factory plug 1/4-28 to accept a standard zerk fitting.
 
are there threads on the opposite side of the a-arm where the plug is installed. if there are threads, then i would just install the same set up as the other side. i have not pulled the plug on a-arm so i don't know what's there.
 
No hole even, you must drill and tap for a new zerk.
 
soif i pull the plug, there's something behind that? i thought it was just a clear shot to the end of the pin.
 
It is a welch plug. You can drill and tap it for a zerk. Do not remove it. And don't put the zerk in too far, else you could block the grease passages to the threads.
 
ie not too far, put some small washers under it. It has to be tight.
 
and dont overtighten the zerk. there wont be much thread there. the sheetmetal plug isnt all that thick.

got it thanks ... i saw the plug tonight and i am going to tap a zerk, thanks for the advice
