97 Jaguar XJ6 - motor cuts off when I suddenly accelerate

My grand old lady has engine problems.

After we're running a few minutes, and either I attempt to accelerate from a stop, or increase my speed suddenly on the road, the engine quits. Sometimes it restarts quickly. Sometimes it takes several minutes.

A mechanic last year replaced the fuel pump, did some other new parts, including a rebuilt alternator, but the problem continued.

a friend had similar problem with an old Land Rover, and he said that he discovered that the fuel line came up from the firewall alongside the engine, so he contrived a "heat sink" with clothespins. I made one with several layers of aluminum foil around the fuel line, and my last test, it seemed to be helpful, but after about 45 minutes the symptom appeared again.

I had to quit, and "life" got in the way, and I haven't tried lately.
Anyone have any clues? hints? ideas? solutions?

thank you, Eric Faust
