New member here, hello to all. Would like any comments or concerns about a 95 XJS conv. I am considering to buy. Has 42,000 miles, looks real clean, and the price is $17,800. Any help of any problem areas etc. will be greatly appreciated. Thanks again.

John

Is the car that you are considering a V-12 or an inline 6 engined car?

What kind of miles are on it?

Take a look at the three inch diameter rubber mounts for the front cross member located at the front of the car. You are looking for cracks in the webs of the rubber.

Take a small mirror and look at the rear suspension cradle mounts at the top front and rear of each rear wheel well. You are looking for signs of delamination in those mounts.

The condition of the front and rear mounts will give you an idea of how hard a life the car has had to date.

At about 92.5 model year the rear brakes were relocated from the sides of the rear differentials to the outside where the wheels mount. That is one advantage over earlier cars.

Look at the condition of one of the air filters (V-12 cars)to see what kind of staining is present.

The 95 has a four speed automatic which improved performance over the 3 speed trans of earlier cars.

I hope these suggestions help.

The big question is what Michael asked. Is at a 6 or a V12 since they are totally different cars but look alike. The 6 has great performance and reliability. Maintenance is not a problem. The 12 is a super car for performance adn OK on reliability but a totally different animal on maintenance requirements and cost thereof. Depending on what you want, the cost sounds right.

Is the car manual or automatic? I have an aquaintance who has one of the 1992 factory 6 cylander manual transmission cars. It is almost imposible to get clutch master, slave cyl. rebuild kits or clutch hoses in the USA. He had to special order rebuild kits from a supplier in the UK. He had to have a clutch hose made by a hose and line shop.

Even so, the car is rare and he loves it.

With the auto, the only things to watch out for are those mentioned before. Good luck! You can't beat an XJS conv. for style.
