TR6 $95,000 TR6

Re: $95,000 TR6 - U got to be kidding

PT Barnum said it best - most everyone knows what that was....
Looks like someone took alot of time to spray paint the heck out of the engine bay. Too bad they didn't bother to sand the surfaces smooth first.
BTW, If I had paid someone $50/hr to work on mine, I'd be at $100K in costs too!
Now, that trailer is SOMETHING else!
Thanks for the entertainment...

Re: $95,000 TR6 - U got to be kidding

I think you could pay someone else to build up a brand new TR6 up from new parts purchased at retail for $100k.....

I don't know squat about TR6's, and never got past the engine bay photos, and even I saw a ton of stuff wrong!
Anybody want to buy my $300,000 GT6? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

maybe the seller put the decimal point in the wrong place?

Concours quality? I think not!

Steve,

Your being closed minded... What's wrong with a 15 point Concours car?

The trailer is pretty neat but the rest looks pretty average fare to me.

Very unlikely as the costs are quoted twice.

It's amazing but of course it never hurts to aim a little high.. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/lol.gif This makes my 73 TR6 look like a million bucks worth. Anyway, I imagine it will be available for a long while, so gives us plenty of time to think on it..ha ha

This may, of course, be a case whereby someone has told the owner that the car is now worth big bucks (probably the guy who did the "restoration") and the poor chump thinks that since he has all this money sunk into it, then that has to be true. Not saying that is the case, but it is amazing the amount of people who think that they are sitting on a gold mine just because their car is old, regardless of the condition and even the make or model. A neighbour of mine has a 1974 MGB with low miles and rotten rocker panels, but she thinks that because it has low miles it must be worth a fortune, and doesn't drive it because of that. What a waste!!

I may be a devious cynic at heart, but this seems like either the poor's guy's significant other has given him the ultimatim "sell it or else", or maybe he's trying to convince the mortgage company that he's got serious collateral for that vacation home.

But at the other end - why not? Why should a GTO be worth ten times more than a TR6? weren't they similarly priced when new? Aren't TR6's a lower production model? Don;t they enjoy a particular niche in automotive history that increases their panache?
I say if we, as British owners, don't think that TR's can be worth $95k, then who will? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

As a British car lover that goes through car ownership at a relativly rapid pace, I would prefere it if our LBCs stay inexpensive for a good long time to come. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

As for the GTOs and such that have been going for big $$$$'s at auction, its really only the ones that came with all of the top of the line options and best engines that go for that kind of money. Generally its less than 100, or even less than 20 total cars built with the options that make the car so desirable now. The color has to be good too. A black GT500 that goes for more than $150k at Barret-Jackson would be a $30k car if it was in lime green or one of the other /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/pukeface.gif colors of the time, if it even had 2 bidders that wanted it that bad.

...Why should a GTO be worth ten times more than a TR6?...

I thought a GTO was worth several hundred times what a TR6 costs.

Oh, one of those GTOs. I was thinking of a real GTO.

looks like the ad was pulled! I visited and it said no longer available-- Did you guys laugh him off the site (or did one of us buy the thing?

I went to an auction last week, one of the cars started at 100k and passed 1M......(I was WAY lost). My only point is, cash ain't nothin but trash these days.Buy a car you love and enjoy it, they wont bury you with the money!!!(only a check made out to your lawyer)

Demand and Supply. Sorry, my economist streak is showing. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

"the poor's guy's significant other has given him the ultimatim "sell it or else" ... Maybe he only agreed to put it up for sale and if it didn't sell, well was that his fault? Figure $45,000 is a good price for my Jeep when my wife says it is time to sell it.
