Anyone have any experience with the 89mm (yes 89) big bore kit for TR3? Sleeves by LA Sleeve and Weisco pistons. Looking for any possible limitations due to the thinner sleeves. I will NOT be racing this car.

bnw,

Without some other goodies you may not see any difference unless your engine is clapped out and you have never driven a good standard engine one.

I'm not familiar with this kit, but it occurs to me that you are going to see a pretty big bump in your compression ratio. I recall the 87mm setup was good for around half a point or so. Going to the 89's will be a large jump. Just food for thought. Good luck!

Not yet, but I hope to. Got a set on the shelf along with a Larry Young street cam, HS6 carbs, and a 4-2-1 header. Along with the alloy flywheel already on the car, I'm looking for some serious street grunt.

Without any other changes, the C/R should only go up by about 0.6 points (over 86mm liners). Not such a bad thing, since more C/R makes the engine more efficient (meaning both more power and better fuel mileage). But I'll be doing some mild head work to smooth out the sharp edges; my target compression ratio is about 10:1.

Ken G. at BFE put this kit together, and Ken is very conscientious about the stuff he sells. Cooling may be more of a problem as more displacement means more heat, and the 89s are also just a big bigger outside (making the water jacket just a smidgeon smaller); but I expect it to be surmountable.
