A few years ago I bought a beautiful MB...only thing wrong was the A/C unit had fallen off...may be because when the engine exploded the rod blowing thru the block hit it:smile:. Anyhow...after much searching and my atty. buying the car, it was back running and driving. Nice little 4 speed standard..very underpowered car. BUT...he loves them, has a few. Anyhow, it has one problem we can't figure out. Starts runs and drives, but when you turn the key off it will run till it runs out of fuel. Only way to kill it is to either stall it with the clutch or pop the hood and push the manual kill lever.Have tested every hose, key switch..everything. Had another guy come who is a MB freak and he's stumped. My atty. is driving it and plans on keeping it and dosen't seem very concerned..but I am. Any ideas??
 
Check the lock vacuum motor on the fuel door too. I have the best luck starting with a door and testing that (isolated from the rest of the system), and doing that one by one until you find the leak It also comes to me that there is a vacuum connection to the trans... I have spent a lot of hours working out the bugs. Good luck. Maybe the Doc will answer, I am sure he knows a shorter way.
 
It's th' BROWN vacuum line, goes to a cut-off solenoid on the injection pump IIRC. Diesela is outside the yard just now so I can't confirm... another of the "likely suspects" is the switch itself. It has vacuum AND electrical goin' thru it. It's the device to allow vacuum to the cut-off solenoid. Put a MightyVac to it and see if it's functioning. i.e. with engine running, MightyVac connected, turn off iggy then apply vacuum to the solenoid. Vacuum applied should chop it off.

A lot of times the biggest problem is the line getting dislodged/damaged when the oil filter is changed.

Add to what's been said. Make sure the pump is making vacuume, make sure none of the lines are collapsing (had one come in that they had replaced the main line off the pump with rubber fuel line, and the vacuume just sucked it flat). Doc's right, the brown lines run the iggy. disconnect all else and see if it works.
Also, the vacuume switch on the iggy switch IS directional. if you get the lines on backwards it can't bleed off the vacuume when switched, and it'll keep running.
Most common is a leak in the door lock system. that'll draw the total vacuume down and not leave enough to shut off the engine. Doing the disconnect procedure out under the hood will isolate which circuit is bad.
