8.5"s of white fluffy stuff...

...the snow blower filled with gas (and test started), and the same with the generator (we live in the country). ....both 4x4's are gassed up and ready to go.
And there's beer in the fridge.

Bring it on, Mother Nature.

Hit me with your best shot! Fire away!

Same here. Generator, chain saw sharpened, saws in the garage, only 4X4's out to the road only once the ice hits. I'm hoping for a better winter than last year - it hardly snowed and stayed pretty warm - but I wouldn't dare tell Mother Nature to "Bring it on" around here. I still remember the ice storm of a few years ago where power was out for a week and a half in temps about 10-20 most days. (This means no water from the well, among other minor inconveniences). I'd rather not do that this year.

We got a good storm here (northern Utah/Wasatch front) over the last few days. Mountains got 24" or so. We've had probably 10" all told at my house, give or take (at 5500'). Cold too, currently .5 degrees F here! Brrrrrr...

We're expecting over 1/4" of ice tomorrow afternoon/night....then the 8"-12" to follow.

One (of many) things I don't miss from my time in Central Illinois was the ice storms. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nonod.gif

Janel, Rick; plan a snow day tomorrow!
70% chance of heavy snow in excess of 12" Weather channel says 10-20" locally 24"

100% chance of heavy drinking in excess of 6 Stellas /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/thirsty.gif

I can handle the snow. It's the ice underneath that reaks havoc...plus, with this being the first storm of the season, folks will be driving with their heads up their...

I long for the 20s -- it was -10 this morning.

Rick, I've never understood the first storm bad driving thing. I live in the Utah mountains. Main industry is skiing. Our license plates read "greatest snow on earth." It snows *every* year, often quite a bit at a time. And still the first storm is always a wreck-fest. Very odd...

Important safety tip:
We got a little sleet here in Mechanicsville, but the temp was down to about 13F. Went out to take the Cutlass into CR
for an appointment with the doctor. Got a mile outside of town and noticed that the temp gauge was above 230. By the time I could pull off the road it was 260. Let the engine cool off for a bit and limped back home. Hadn't been servicing he Cutlass myself for about the past year, so I was amazed to find that the mechanic in Florida had neglected to drain the coolant and replace it.

The cooling system is apparently full of nothing but water!
I don't think any permanent damage has occurred, but I thought maybe I should remind everyone to check their coolant if they haven't already.

Was upper 60s-70s last 5 days. I was out in Emma every day cruising. Went out last evening for a few hours, top down, 65 degrees. Is 31 here now, raining since last night, up to 1/2" of ice predicted then 8-12" of snow, depending on the area and the path of the storm.

I've got plenty of antifreeze, plenty of coffee, books and movies. Let it snow...gets me out of shopping for a few days!

I would be the yellow "X" --

Yup, its looking like its getting recharged from the gulf and then some! Mid west is gonna get hammered. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/hammer.gif

We hit -15 degrees last night. TR8 was loathe to start this morning. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/nopity.gif

Chuck's at our friends' house at Lake of the Ozarks this week, fished a little, is helping wire a big shed they built (thinking winter storage for LBCs!!!) They are expected to get a foot of snow. Factoring in that their driveway is 1/2 mile uphill to get to the other rock road through the hills and woods - then another mile or two before the hard road...

I may see him by Christmas...

Two "X" to the east and one "X" to the north of Janel...and you'll find me getting ready for the storm!

I just spent the last hour and a half ensuring that the Cutlass didn't sustain any engine damage from the overheat this morning. Gotta love the Olds 403. Not only did it have enough power to be used in the Trans Am, it's also almost bulletproof unless you start trying for sustained engine speeds above 5.5k!

Then I had to fix the electric choke that came with the Edelbrock carb. It's never worked. You've just got to hate mechanics who don't really know anything about vehicles made prior to 1995.

Now I'm freezing and I want to go back to Tampa!
OTOH, I do have really cool winter boots and a really nifty Russian fur hat /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

And tomorrow, I can put on my thermals and ski suit and crawl back under the GT to fix the OD!

BTW, the Russian hat was a 12.00 Harbor Freight purchase - In Tampa. Reckon that's why it was so cheap?

Nice day here, almost 70 but overcast, think we are going to have rain rather than your snow.

Just scraped over 1/2" of ice off the van so I could get home, the trees are creaking. Brought some more logs in.....

I left the Clinic about 5:30 and had to scrape a layer of ice off of the truck windshield and side glass...and the fuel door was frozen shut when I got to the gas station to top off.

Only took about 2 minutes to scrape the windows clean of ice (thanks to a handy electric ice scraper given to me last Christmas!) Only took one additional trip to the release handle to open the fuel door after knocking ice off side of truck at gas station.

I-74 was wet but clear and smooth sailing home, made it in my normal time of about 15 minutes from Champaign to St.Joseph

Backed the Pathfinder into the garage to be able to have a running start (just in case) tomorrow morning and did the same with the wife's Mountaineer.

Sounds like it's sleeting pretty good right now...but....it's only the "bottom of the first" and the score is tied.....Mother Nature 1 and rick 1.

I'm just sitting here, waiting for it to hit. Raining right now, but the bottom is dropping out of the thermometer.
Should be a fun ride to work in the morning.
Jeff

"They" are talking possibilities of 20+ inches of snow north of STL. Hmmm, last time I looked, Michigan was N of STL...
