79B Exhaust Resonator -what will it sound like w/o

I have a 1979MGB with dual HS4 carb set up with associated cast iron exhaust manifold. The exhaust resonator (looks like a cherry bomb) is pretty rusty compared to the muffler and I wonder how much the exhaust note would change with it removed.

I would of course put a section of pipe in its place and hook it to the muffler. Othewise I suspect it might be kinda loud.

Go for it and let us know.

My '79 B with the HIF4 conversion had a Peco header & 2" aluminized pipe flowing into an 18" "cherry bomb" center muffler & a 12" "Cherry bomb" rear muffler....had a nice low growl.

If it's a similar unit to OEM silencers, it likely won't make much difference. If it's like Tony's setup it'll be "WOOF!" loud. I like the ANSA or Monza systems for "tone". Tho the newer ones don't have near the same aggressive sound as the originals. Best ones IMO were the Stebro systems attached to a Hooker header.

I have Tony's setup...except with just one cherry bomb.

I LOVE it! Drowns out the passengers!

Well, not "LOUD" unless you're a teenager trying to sneak in after curfew...if you're a guy like us, it just announces your arrival with a nice low GROWWWWLLLL

A friend asked how to get that gutteral "manly" sound from her Fiat Spider...

"Put some real PIPES on it!" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/devilgrin.gif

I like that "nice low Growwwlll" part.

Over time I have removed resonators from several misc vehicles. Afterward most of them "resonate". Louder, yes, but be prepared for an annoying "buzz" at times. Bob

The front silencer does almost nothing. It's only good for scraping up speed bumps. Your exhaust will sound a little more aggressive, that's all.
