OK, so I'm tearing into removing this motor. I'm debating on pulling the 210 tranny with it. How complicated is it to remove them together? What's entailed in the process? I like the above process for pulling the motor. I can't seem to get to the bell-housing bolts with the thick adapter plate in the way. It looks like I have to pull them both...

Anyone want to come over and help on Saturday?? :cheers:

It is a tighter fit than the normal transmission pull, but otherwise the same. Check and see if the lower tranny mount adapter is a two piece unit that you can loosen.

I just pulled mine as a unit yesterday, but I have a the Rivergate kit and I'm assuming yours is the Morriservice kit.

I'm running a 1098 in Bugsy my '68. It's a nice torquey motor and seems to run sweet. 5 hp difference = about 8% power difference so not much is noticeable. I've never driven a 1275 but Bugsy can cruise all day long at speed if asked.

If you go for the 1098 be sure to check which 1098 it is.

Also, anyone have good ideas on cleaning up my parts? I might as well use this opportunity to tidy things up on the engine compartment. What should I use to clean the grease/oil off of my alternator? What's a good surface cleaner for the painted surfaces to get the grime off and allow a good surface for paint?

Avoid the 10cg if possible. The later model is made sturdier.

I got a good deal on a parts washer tank for smaller stuff. Otherwise buy a few cans of carb cleaner - works great - even eats varnish off a kitchen table - don't ask me how I know :wink:

Shift lever comes out really easily, carpet will be fine, just take off shift boot etc etc and there is (assuming it is about the same as a 1500) a cap that you push and turn to lift off then lever just pulls out - 2 minute job

I still think you're easier & cheaper rebuilding what you have - at least tear it down to see. You have nothing to loose and are dealing with a known quantity instead of a stranger's assurances. There, I said it now I'll shut up

I'm really amazed at how easy all this stuff is to break down for removal of engine and transmission. The 210 tranny shift lever comes out with one bolt...very nice! Two bolts on the tranny mount, drive shaft, motor mounts, clutch slave...done deal! I really wish I had the time to tear into this motor and figure all this stuff out. I just don't have the time and REALLY want to drive it this summer. Funds are in short supply. I've done pretty good auctioning off spares on ebay, so it will off set the cost of the replacement motor. I'm working with a reputable source here at BCF who will provide the info needed to confirm the integrity of the replacement motor, so I'm OK with that. I'm just hopeful it all works out.

A 1275 is a "decent replacement option" for a 1098 but I think not the other way around.

Main bearings, rod bearings, rings, cam bearings, gasket set.

Have block professionaly honed, boiled, and crank bearings polished after checking them.

Thats about it unless you find something wrong.

Maybe 3 to 4 hundred on the cheep.

Save head, etc for later.
