MGB 78 MGB question about the speedometer

Can any of you tell me how to remove the speedometer from the dash of a 78 MGB? After pulling off the speedo cable and the light, there is nothing we can feel that holds the speedo in place. But it does not come out the hole.

Question 2: We are trying to fix the odometer in the car. We have another speedometer that the odometer works, but the face is bad. So what is the easiest way to remove the needle so the rest of the parts can be swapped?

Thanks for your help.

Thats a 78 B Spedo I just Pulled out a few months ago. Its held in by three cylinder shaped protusions. Forgive me I have no idea what they are called. by spinning the spedo 90 degrees they will line up with three holes in the dash just big enough to let them out. The third picture Is the back of the dash. you can see where the cylinder protrusion would slide out in comparison to the line of idiot lights.

Easy version-

grab the spedo and spin it 90 degrees. Push it from the back and it will pop right out of the dash.

I knew it was something easy. Thanks very much. Any idea how to get the needle off without breaking anything?

We also put in a new fuel pump. I found it interesting that the rubber holding the fuel pump in place was still good rubber. The new parts I have been buying has rubber that starts failing after one year.

Not yet I dont. Im having a similar problem. When It was driving the needle would swing about 20 mph back and forth. With the highest speed focal point about 35. The odometer Stopped working well before that. I only have one good one so Im interested in your project. Keep us posted.

But this is the blind leading the blind! I know already , don't just pull on the needle. It appears to be glued or something, so I have already ruined the parts speedometer.

Found the answer to the needle removal. You must pull up in an even manner. make one of these. Brilliant piece of equipment for the job.

Don't "see" any attachment, Jerry.

Same as a watchmaker's tools, two bars with center notches, curved and used as levers to pry off the needle. Use a ziplock bag between the levers' heels and the gauge face to keep from marring it.
