Guys,

the 78 MGB i have had the cigarette lighter ripped out leaving a hole in the console. The wires were atatched to a new cd/radio. I am looking to replace it with one that works for a few reasons:
1. to fill the hole in the console
2. For power for my ipod!
3. to maintaint the originality of the car.

Will any old cigarette lighter replacement do? I am trying to figure out how it was locked onto the console. Thanks!

The cigarette lighter socket is held in by a threaded collar on the back side of the console. You can get a universal mount lighter, or if no smoking is involved you can replace it with a socket and cover. That's what I did:

It's in the center of the console, below the radio. Got mine at Advance Auto, but there are lots out there.

I should have one of those as well...if so, I'll include it with the spare tire rod gratis.

I replaced mine with one from Moss. Mickey, I love the cover and would have probably gone that route as having the lighter itself rattling around would be a PITA. That said, the Moss one (not too expensive) does have the "light ring: around it which does illuminate and add the general fading Lucas ambiance of these cars.

Here's one at O'Reilly's.

guysm again, thank you so much!!! The feedback here is awesome! Now if I could only get more time to work on this thing!!! I just wanted it for power as a charger input.
