What should the nuts that hold down the thermostat housing down be torqued to? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
 
Haha, what size are they, look in front of the Haynes book for torque for different sizes, prob about 20 lbs. Not a lot.
 
size? i can't tell you the 'actual' size of those bolts but a 1/2" wrench will more than likely fit them. At least, that's the size I remember using on them /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

My Haynes doesn't give any recommended torque settings for the Thermostat housing, not in the front, the back, in the section on the cooling system, nor even the section on changing the thermostat.

Either way, when I pulled my thermostat, I put the housing back on and tightended the bolts without a torque wrench. I just made sure the bolts were tight and left it at that.
 
The Haynes doesn't specifically list a torque setting for the thermostat housing but it does list 20 ft lb for 5/16 bolts. I'll try this (gently) as soon as I can get to it. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif
 
Can't find one in Bentley either. I used about 15 lbs recently and then tightened a bit more as I needed it. 20 or so probably max.
 
20 for that size nut.
 
5/16" studs... it's a "one grunter" with a 3/8" ratchet and 1/2" socket, holding the ratchet at the head, not the leverage end of the handle... 15~20 ft/lbs., no more. This is with a cork gasket "filmed" with RTV.
