While I was cleaning up "Molly" today I retracted the seat belts and now neither one will pull back out. What do I do now? /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
If there not being bound by something external its time for new belts. I highly recommend the roadster ones from the link below. Good quality, bolt right in and much cheaper than moss. Also about the same length as the original belts.
No, they have never been disconnected from the body. I had been actually using the driver side belt. This evening I had been cleaning car when I let the belt retract. The Passenger belt was already retracted and neither it nor the driver side belt will pull back out. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
There was a recall on these belts back in the mid '80s due to this problem. I do not know if there is any recourse at this late date...and I don't even know who the correct paty to contact would be now. (I exchanged mine through Jaguar Cars, LTD about 1987.) I believe the recall covered MGs and other BL products manufactured 1977 through 1980.
You might be able to do a websearch to see if your belts would still be covered and through who.
Hey John,
As Tony said they must be level to work. You might try loosening the attachment bolt and try a new angle on the belt. If it works at the new angle tighten it up there.

Finally discovered a solution to my seat belt problem. This sounds a little weird but, I simply took the belts loose and switched sides with them. Now they work. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/confused.gif
