76 MIDGET WINDSHIELD SEAL FRAME TO BODY

I am replacing the bottom Windshield seal that goes between the windshield frame and the car body (cowling). The old one came off pretty easy, but I need some "guidance" on how to install the new one. My aluminum channel is in very good condition. Do I heat the new one up first? Use some sort of "lube"? Unscrew the bottom windshield frame first and then slide it in? As always, thanks for your help.....AL
 
Mine just slid in I don't recall needing any lube - the real challenge will be reattaching the window to the car
 
When you guys say just slide it in, does this mean with the everything still in place? The post seems to be in my way, and I will have to do a lot of bending and pushing to get the gasket in the slot?
 
MIne came from VB and slid right in. Better to pull than push, but you'll have to do both probably.

Just have two screws in mine. I'm letting the rubber compress a bit more before I try the other two. It's a bear for sure.
 
When I did mine, I found a trick on one of the MG sites that suggested running duct tape along the under-side of the front lip. This will give you something to grip while you pull that lip out along the cowl. Have a buddy on the other side tighten the bolts in the center under the mirror first and it will compress and hold it for the end bolts. Then, you get to have fun with shims and bolts.
 
NO, you don't. IIRC, I went in by the screw hole, got it all the way down the other side, figured out how long I needed it, cut it, scrunched it up and fed it in the other side of the screw hole.

Think about it, if you take the side off, how you gonna get to the screws to put the side back on?
 
I just took off the side pillar, came right apart and I replaced the screws with something that was a real close replacement from local Ace Hardware store. MOSS piece slid right in the track with no issues.

A tip on fitting shims. I cut a slot for both top and bottom bolts so I could get screws started and then I could slide the shims in from behind. Worked really slick to do this job myself.
 
Ya know, maybe I took the side off and then sqished the seal up to get to put thr screws back in. I don't remeber but it went in too easy to go in through the screw holes.
