76 MIDGET CARPET / INSULATION / SEAT INSTALL

I am putting in new carpet and sound/heat insulation in my Midget. What adhesive should I use for the insulation? I would prefer one that would allow me to pull it up if necessary some day, but strong enough to keep it stuck. Also, should I put in long slits for the seat rails to sit directly on the floor, or just put in holes so the rails sit on top of the carpet and insulation? Thanks ......AL

3M # 74 spray glue is strong yet removable.
Just put holes where the seats go.
I use an awl heated up with a torch to melt the holes in the rug.

I have the VB kit 16-684 and also the VB,trunk kit 16-694. The previous owner bought them 11 years ago but never put them in..........along with everything else he purchased for the car.

nice kit - looks like the wheel hump pieces are pre-curved, that will help. I did mine with a more basic kit in the spring so if you have any questions, I'll check the boards a little more often today.

Now that is a killer idea. I wish I had thought of that when doing mine. Would make fishing the bolts through a heck of a lot easier.

I recently put carpet into my 63 Mk 1 Midget, I used double sided carpet tape to hold the underfelt down, and then glued the carpet to the underfelt using Ados F2, brushed on not sprayed. Seems to have worked fine, and if you want you can pull up the underfelt/carpet off the tape, and stick it back down again easy. If the double sided tape is too furry to stick again, just replace it. I used a soldering iron to make the holes for the seat bolts.

Kills the temper in the awl. I cut small squares out w/ a razor or punch holes thru w/ a phillips screw driver.

I usually shoot holes in the floor w/ a .22 to drain water when I wash out bad carpet. I don't reccomend you try that with this. :nonod:
