Hi all. I finally got around to popping the valve cover on my engine today and man is it covered in gunk! What's the best way to clean this off? Thanks!
Jeff

I should add that the crud and gunk are not just on the inside of the valve cover but all over the rockers and springs and the top of the head. Push rods are nice and clean and lubed.

Serious over kill, swab out the inside of the rocker cover wipe down the top of the head with paper towels. Put it back together add a quart of high detergent motor oil and forget about it. Do it again in a couple thousand miles. Bob

I had a slant six recently that was how you described. I knocked the crud loose in the cover and ran engine flush through it. It was fine, till all the crud the flush loosened started clogging the pump screen and starved it of oil. It developed a rod knock and I gave the car away. Looking back, I wish I had just put some ND oil in it and drove it.
