TR6 '74 TR6 Idle problem

When my car warms up, the idle rises to somewhere around 1000-1600rpm. If I blip the throttle, sometimes it falls back to a normal idle of 850rpm. Any idea what is causing this? Could it be as simple as a sticky throttle assembly?

check your choke and choke cable operation. You didn't mention whether or not the idle rises when the choke is pushed fully in, or whether it was still engaged. If it was half out, or even 1/4 out, then what you describe would be close to normal.
 
Also check for vacuum leaks through the throttle shaft bushings in the carb bodies using carb cleaner spray (if leaking, idle should drop when sprayed). Your temp compensators on the front side of the carbs may also be stuck open or improperly adjusted. Lastly, the carb bypass valves may have shot diaphrams or be out of adjustment.

I made sure the choke was pushed in all the way. Rick, I'll check the by-pass valve. I never knew they existed!
