TR6 74 TR6 Carb

Started my Triumph up for the first time in about a year, having finished some interior work finally. No problem starting or running, but after shutting down there was fuel streaming out the bottom of the Carb. Everything is original, never had a leaking fuel problem before. Has something stuck from an extended shut down, or do I need a rebuild? Thanks, Andrew
 
There's 2 possibilities. Moss part #365-470 which seals the float chamber's plug has shrunk due to lack of exposure to gas during storage or the float chamber needle valve, Moss #366-090, is stuck in the open or partially open position; again, due to storage conditions or debris.
 
It's probable the o-ring which seals the plug on bottom of float bowl... I agree with Poolboy!
 
Scott, run to Lowes or your nearest plumber and get a pack of number 13 size rubber "O" rings, that way you can replace both. They dry out over time and leek like crazy right on the exhaust, NOT Good!!!

Just fired mine off today after 4 years, same thing happened, you can pull the plug out with your fingers with a twisting motion, comes out real easy, new orings and no leaks now!! :smile:
 
I would hold off on the rubber oring. Rubber is good for home plumbing projects but aren't recomended for use around gasoline. Look for buna or nitrile ring which are black and can be easily mistaken for rubber.
You will also want a new gasket. There is a chance your plug won't come out as easily. The plugs have tabs that are pressed in from the backside to allow their removal. Be careful squeezing them because the plastic can become brittle after years of exposure to gas.
Fortunately, the job can be completed with the carbs in place. Just remove the 6 slotted screws holding the bowl in place. The hardest part is accessing the blind screws.
