74 Midget - may purchase, looking for input

I have additional pictures, since it's on Whidbey Island I can't just hope in my van & go see it without a 3 to 5 hour commitment. So I asked for more pics, from other angles.

(I'm pleased by what I see, some wear on the hood & trunk tho...)

Is this outside all the time? I ask because it's raining in the pic, and the hood isn't on properly, maybe a couple of tenax fastners missing, but enough to let water in.
Besides, the lawn tractor has a cover.......
You're right about the bonnet & boot, the tail light lenses are broken on the bottom screw, really nothing serious (is it me or do they look amber/amber?).
If I were you, I'd ask for some more photos of the passenger side, just around the door inside and out. Drivers side sill too.
Looks like it's had new leaf springs recently.

I guess I brightened the pictures a bit too much. They were pretty dark as he sent them. I wanted to bring out more details, so the colors are off. The tail lights look right in the originals.

Baz; When you say "hood" do you mean the top or the bonnet?
What's a "tenax fastener"?

The lawn tractor is a Deere, people here in the Northwest are pretty anal about them. No doubt he paid double (or more) what he's asking for the Midget on that Deere.

The wife & I are planning to go to Whidbey this afternoon, hopefully he will be willing to take what I offer. He told me that he was going to have several people look at it over the weekend - after emailing him last night I found he still has it.

If I'm too large to fit comfortably behind the wheel I guess that will give me some added incentive to lose weight. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Here's a list of questions I sent this morning:

1. Engine: does it hold it's oil & is it a smooth runner, any idea if it's ever had a rebuild?
2. Cooling: does the engine cooling system work well?
3. Heater / Defroster
4. Clutch: Is it "fresh" or "worn", any idea if it's been replaced (ever)?
5. Transmission: all good, or any trouble?
6. Carbs: I assume that since the car runs they can't be too bad, any work ever done on them?
7. Wiper motor?
8. Brakes: when were they last redone - how many miles ago?
9. Did you get to the few small things you mentioned before (wiper blades, tail light, some seal for the top)?
10. Rust: your pictures didn't show a lot of it. That's remarkable. Are there bad areas your pictures didn't show?
11. I test drove a Volvo this weekend that had been smoked in excessively, what's the smoking situation with yours?

(dang, I should have asked about the exhaust)

I talked to him a few minutes ago, I have an appointment to come out this afternoon.

He says it has a new transmission & it shifts like a dream.
Hopefully it's going to run well enough to drive home after taking a ferry & three different Interstate freeways.

Now I just have to practice saying: "That's real nice, would you take $1500.00?"

The trunk lid looks like somebody tried to close it without releasing the prop rod - its a very common problem and unless the kink is so bad it lets water in, just cosmetic.

Big thing is rust - check the bottom door hinge on both sides very carefully for rot, also look at the bottom of the post between the front fender and door. Take along a refigerator magnet and see if it sticks there - if not, its full of bondo or fiberglass.

Good hunting!

Thanks Jack, I was thinking I would take a magnet but almost forgot - I'll remember to pack that in my kit.

Leaving work now to pick up the missus, then we will go on a little drive and see if we can get us a midget...

Sounds funny like that /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

Been keeping an eye on ebay, for the past couple months there's just been the odd spridget here and there. Now that we are into summertime they are popping up quicker than the daffodils! Anyways, found this one that fits the original thread description... shame it's on this side of the pond though!
