HI All,

Working on restoring my newly acquired 1974 Chrome bumper MGB.
Want to install a complete new harness. Can some one please suggest:
1. Where to purchase the new harness from?
2. How easy or difficult is it to replace the harness (I have no experience doing this kind of work).
Kindly help. / Thanks

I've been happy with the Mini Cooper and Austin-Healey 3000 harnesses purchased from British Wiring. Bought the MGB harness from a local MG shop (Moss supplied). Get the snap connector tool. You might consider getting a copy of Rick Astley's MGB Electrical book. Get a manual with the wiring diagrams.

As you take the old harness out, label each wire. What does it attached to - B terminal of the fuel gauge. I used a Brother label maker instead of masking tape. Then layout both harnesses and see what's the same and what's different. Might want to label the new harness (with masking tape - easily removed). Be careful threading the harness through the firewall to not damage the tape. Don't throw anything away until the job is done.

Thanks Bob. Will Consider.

Few questions....

1. Do you know if any harness out there has labels on them when they are sold?
2. Do the harnesses come in 3 pieces: dash, rear and engine section?
This 'll be my 1st time working on replacing harness, so kinda afraid to put my hand into it.

No labels on the new harness. If I remember correctly, for our 1980 MGB, there are two large harnesses. Engine compartment/dash and rear/underneath. They're connected together on the left hand side wheel well - next to the firewall. There are several short harnesses (example ignition switch) that plug in to the dash section of the harness. As you spread the harness out, the usage of some of the leads will be obvious from their locations.
