When I decided to rebuild my starter, I found several of the parts were hard to come by. The spire nut that fits on the end of the shaft was eventually found at Moss under the MGB listing. I also needed the rear flanged bushing that the shaft obviously runs on and it's flange which acts with the spire nut to manage the shaft's thrust. I found the flanged bushing at Rimmer Bros. I also got their brush set.
The two parts I could not get were the retaining rivets for the brush holder and the rubber dust shield that fits over the spire nut and armature shaft.
The rivets I fabricated from 1/8 inch rod, and the end cap from some scrape sheet metal I had laying about.
I am glad I do not have to do this for a living, but it was fun.
