Hello!!!

Can anyone please give me the recommended plug and points gap for 1973 MG Midget.

Spring is here and would like to get it running, but not able to without this information.

Sorry, I have a "B" but it can't be too awful far off from that. .015 to .018 on the points and .028 on the plugs.
One of the spridget guys might get you closer.

Yep...that'll work fine.

Hello Hijaws,

really the points should be 0.015", as accurately as you can measure them. Plugs at 0.025" but they have slightly more leeway. By the way that is what an MGB should be set to also.

Well its been awhile. I have an infra-red pick-up on my ignition now. I thought I used to adjust the points to around .017 to allow room for some wear. Anyway, it used to work fine there.

Hello Mr. B,
you have a point there, but did you put a smear of grease on the cam so as to lubricate the heel of the points?. Personally I gap using a dwell meter and no longer use feeler gauges, but my point is that a small variation alters the spark intensity and the timing, so should be as close to specification as posible.
In practice, some engines are more tolerant than others, usually depending on how highly tuned they are.

Yes, I used the grease and did back up my setting with a dwell check and corrected if necessary.
