73 MG Midget Race Car

Here is my new MG race car. The car has a twin cam Toyota 4age 1600cc engine with Electromotive TEC-2 fuel injection and ignition system, Toyota Corolla GTS 5 speed transmission and Toyota Corolla GTS rear axle with LSD.

The suspension is a Double A arm front suspension with Tubular front sway bar, 5 link rear suspension with straight axle and adjustable Carrera coilover shocks with hypercoil springs on all 4 corners.

This thing is a rocket ship.

Sweet! what class you race it in with the Toyota engine?
 
Amazing - how many hours/days/weeks/months/years to complete that project - the fit and workmanship and engineering look mind-boggling.

And for us mere mortals: is the rear end a solid axle? If so, what are your thoughts on using it as a Spridget replacement (narrowed; redrilled wheels; weld on stock Sprite suspension fitments etc. etc.) so as to get rid of the axle problems?

And - again! - the fit & workmanship of everything looks incredible.

That is very impressive. It looks like the Toyota lump shoehorned in their fairly well. Noticed that the battery tray was eliminated. Where was the battery relocated?
 
Here is a picture of the suspension. The rear is a 5 link rear suspension with straight axle, LSD, and adjustable Carrera coilover shocks. Double A arm front suspension tubular front sway bar and adjustable Carrera coilover shocks.

It allows for adjustment of camber, caster, toe, king pin angle, ackermen, bump steer, and ride height.

You can see the battery box that has been added in front of the axle on the passenger side.

Would you consider doing a "how it was done" article for us to share? The information on how to do that and contact the editor are on the web page. Curtis is trying to get a special article on MG race cars going now as well, so it is a hit on both counts.

They did make a turbo version of this engine, but that would probably be a little over the top don't you think? :cooler:
 
You can never have over the top!

There is a guy here that has a 500HP V8 Motorcycle... That *might* be. :smile:

Awsum just plain awsum. I did note a real improvement as you went along on corners and shifting, etc.

With some seat time you will be able to control that rocket.

What a neat ride.
 
We need some details! What tranny is used?? EFI setup? In process construction details.
Please post to the V8 site.
Looking on Ebay there a JDM 4AGE's for $6-750 so this looks like a real good upgrade.
I want one with a Sebring nose! I want one!
 
The tranny is the 5-speed Toyota that goes along with the 4AGE engine from the Corolla GTS. I have a Techno Toy Tuning short shifter kit and custom bent the shaft. The rear end with LSD is also a Toyota unit.

The EFI is Electromotive TEC-2 fuel injection and ignition system with TWM intake manifold, 48mm throttle bodies and fuel rail and injectors. The radiator is actually from an RX-7.

I would love to build a street car with the same drivetrain this one is extremely fast and the engine is hardly working at interstate speeds. The engines/transmissions in my stock spridgets sound like they are going to explode and puke their guts out when I drive them on the interstate at 70+.
 
True, but the person next to you always says "Is it supposed to sound like that!?" :driving:

Have any of you ever noticed that when you let someone else drive your car they never really "drive" it like they should to get the real experience of what the Spridget has to offer. They rev the engine to half rpm before changing gears, nobody is used to letting an engine sing anymore.
