TR6 '72 TR6: Vent

You know the vent right in front of the windshield, directly behind hood? On what models does this thing open? Moss shows a lever to open it, but mine is securely fastened down, and I don't even see a spot for a lever in the cockpit.

Joe, sounds like you are missing a few parts. There is a lever that fits in a little slide bracket, a rod to the vent and a couple of springs that hole the door in place. Might try a junker TR4-TR6 if you can find one. Wayne

Too bad, so sad. On the 72 model there is no vent to open like the earlier ones. We get a fixed grill and then are able to open the little eyeball vents at the dash ends. Big improvement.

Web,

I'm pretty sure that the vent lid became a fixed grill type piece at some point on the TR6 (maybe all of them). I remember reading somewhere that the bent wiper (to clear the vent lid when open) became unnecessary at some point. I'm fairly sure that my 1972 TR6 had the fixed vent lid.

Now I do think that Paul and Kurtis are right. My '70 has the flip up vent and in the boxes I got when I got the car was an open type grill and I wondered what the heck was that for. Wayne

Joe, sounds like...

My name isn't Joe, it's Webb. I just work for a guy named Joe Hash, and that's his site.

Thanks for the help everyone. That's a bummer it doesn't open though.

Fixed vents were introduced in CF series TR6's in Sept '72. At the same time the wiper arms were painted black. At least that's what I've read.

This could be interesting to narrow down. My car is a CF series, has the fixed vents and black wipers, manufactured in July, 1972.

Paul--The fixed vent was introduced early, perhaps with the '70 (CC50001) or quickly thereafter. As always with BL, the change was to save cash. The black wipers appeared only on the later CF ('73 - '76) series.

That explains it then. I've got a March '72 model which has silver wiper blades and a fixed vent, correct for the car.

I'm going to highjack my own thread: The commision number on my TR6 is CC80532 U. What does the U mean or stand for?

How hard is it to retrofit a later car?

Shouldn't be too difficult as I see VB lists P/Ns for the bits you'll need.
