TR6 '72 TR6: Oil in Coolant

Could be like a lot of things, the new stuff could be inferior.
Last October at the TRials up in St Louis, there were about 80 TR6's...I saw 2 with fresh looking green top radiator hoses split.
There has been a lot of talk before and after about those unreinforced green hoses. The cloth impregnated top layer doesn't really count as reinforcement.
Here's a link to some of the topics.

Oh, OK cool, I'll keep an eye. I did however purchase this set from TRF, who went the extra mile to have them made especially for them. Generally I trust TRF to get it right.

Nice story, Martin and I hope your's "last a long time"...I know for sure that one of the blown hoses at the TRials was from TRF...

Take a look at yours...if it's not reinforced such as this, although they may be pretty, they aren't structurally sound. Silicone Hose 002.jpg

Good photo, thanks. Mine don't look like that, with the interior webbing .. but neither do the 25 year-old hoses I just took off the car. Hmm. But I will hang onto them.

I am bringing this page three topic back up just because it helped me get the gumption to look into my oil in the coolant issue. I had what looked like traces of oil floating at the top of my radiator too. I thought of a lot of hypotheses, most of them with expensive conclusions. So I kind of just ignored it and occasionally monitored it hoping it would go away.

But after reading this topic I decided it was time to drain and flush. One long drive later still looks good.

I will add there was one less expensive possibility. When I buy oil I always prefer to get the quarts, not the five quart container. Mostly because it is easier to keep track of how much oil you put in, and if you have a 4 quart change you have one quart bottle left, not a 4/5 empty 5 quart jug. Now we get to the meat of it. I did get one of those 5 at. containers a few years back, it was blue, same color as the Peak Antifreeze I usually buy, so I had a quart of oil sitting in a container that at a quick glance looked an antifreeze container, I know I absentmindedly started pouring in a car once. Thought it was a different car. Might have been the TR.
