TR6 72 TR6 dash lite reostat question

To eliminate the reostat, can you just connect the wires behind it? I think I have a short and never use it anyway.
 
In the last year,I have done a 71 a 73 and a 76,,,,,call british wiring and buy the book on tr6's best 30$ you ever spent.

There are two switches that make no sense in the TR6. The dash light rheostat and the interior on/off light switch. The latter in my case is now an electric fan bypass switch (just have to get the proper knob, they actually make one with a fan logo) and the rheostat will someday be something useful. Makes no sense to dim lights that are already too dim to see. My 73 has a seat belt warning light on the dash (yeah, right, that is still there) that is now an on/off lighted rocker switch for my fog lights relay. Found a switch made in the UK that fits the hole perfectly. Too cool.

Yes, you can bypass. You likely don't have a short though (or the car would have gone up in smoke) but an open. The switch is very easy to clean and repair. There are several little tabs on the back that can be bent up which allows the switch to come apart. You then need only to take out the wire coil and clean it. Clean also the wiper tang on the rotating part. Put it back together and enjoy.
Agreed, the piece is of little use, but it is satisfying to repair it rather than just replace or throw out.
 
I noticed one of the smaller UK based vendors offering a push-button starter switch to replace the rheostat. Looked very cool, but can't remember the vendor.....somewhere in my notes.
 
Out of curiousity, how would this set up work w/ key and ignition? How would it be wired in?
I've seen these set ups for Honda S2000 models for sale on ebay UK for 20-30 dollars complete w/ relays.
 
go to ebay ( don't go to UK site) and type in
honda start button, and there are a number of listings fron US and UK sites.
It says you turn the key 2 clicks then hit the start button, or you can still use the key. $30-40 bucks for the whole kit. Very cool.
