Don't know if I am on the correct forum but need help identifying part of my 1958 TR3 engine. The engine is presently being assembled but I found one part i don't recogonize. Its a cap with the number 710 on top. Does anyone know what this is and where it goes? [image]https://www.timyoho.com/TriumphPage/TRstuff/Restoration/710cap.htm[/image]

Even though this is in the 'Humor' section I'll assume you are serious.

Looks about the right shape for an oil filler cap but in the picture I can't tell if the cap is a 1/2", 2" or 12" across. Would also help to see the bottom side.

The "O" seems to be a slightly different size from the 7 & 1. 71 degrees celsius (160 F) is about right for a warm weather thermostat but this is not a tstat and TR did not go to celsius until the TR4.

There is a steel cap on the back end of the starter motor -- about an inch across -- but again can't tell what size this one is.

haha, Geo I don't think you're gonna live this one down.

Fog, great page you have on your TR, that sucks when you get ripped off like that, a similar thing happened to me on my 66 Spitfire. Oh and if you are looking for another TR3 we have a rather nice 95% restored one at work for a bargin bin price. Heres a link to a picture of it. https://community.webshots.com/photo/200941779/200957751IgGhHw

Uh, Walter -

You may want to change the highlighted picture on that link. Unless that's 95% restored! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/jester.gif

Hey its a nice TR3 it just needs some light cosmetic work.

Walter: Did you change your name and move? The car in your picture looks exactly like the one I bought from another fellow who said it only needed cosmetic work. He did throw in the 710 cap for free.
